Blog Prompt 3

I chose an article from the New York Times, titled "The Dalai Lama's Speech". In the article the editor writes about how the Dalai Lama said that the Chinese government is turning Tibet into a "hell on earth". The article continues to praise the Dalai Lama and say how good of a guy he is and that he is all about peace. Now don't get me wrong i have nothing against the Dalai i am just a little annoyed that this article is completely one sided and they just basically say that the Dalai Lama is right. They say very little about about China is working very hard to make the lives better for the people in Tibet, but they only have one line of that, and in the next line they continue to rip on China and the government. I have no idea if China is really being uncooperative with the people of Tibet and the Dalai Lama, but the article should have at least put something in there relating to China and just just continuously talk about how good the Dalai Lama is and that he is all about peace, show some details about how China is treating the people of Tibet badly so the readers and get a sense of what the Dalai Lama is speaking out against. Most people probably already believe that the Dalai Lama is a pretty good guy and that he is for peace, so tell the other side of the story.

  1. You make a good point. It's like the article is saying, "Hey it's the Dalai Lama, of course he's right. What more is there to say?" The article is only relying on ethos to make the arguement and according to your analysis, completely ignoring logos.
